Bitter Blue: Chapter 1It is a beautiful day in Dies Grith: the sun shines, the sky is blue and cloudless, and all is soaked with the revitalizing warmth of spring. The mansion seems to bask in the sweet air, bringing a dance to the step of all who reside within. But something else also rises up from the chambers of the place, as if not to be outdone by the perfection of the morning. It is an entrancing noise, heard in the garden, the halls, the kitchen everywhere. In the clear and innocent soprano of one who has not yet been sullied by the world, a song echoes:You gave me rubies for my birthday, la-a-ree-a-do,Your blessing for my wedding, la-a-ree-a-do,
UnfulfilledBones. That was what surrounded me in this white wasteland: the remains of both human and monster, embedded into the hard, packed snow. Ribcages poked up from beneath a sea of powder, like claws reaching up at my legs. Everything was colorless here, even me. The brown fur on my cloak looked washed out, and so did my armor and red hair.The wind had stopped howling for the moment, and cold, dry flakes fell straight down to the ground, as opposed to the spinning, blinding flurry that it had been.
